Most of The Guard Alliance’s team members are based in California, our home state. Every day, our security and fire watch guards serve communities across the Greater Los Angeles area. This latest fire disaster has affected many of our team members personally.
This week, we wanted to acknowledge the first responders on the ground and encourage folks in our network to donate to fire relief efforts if you can. The Cali Fire Foundation and the American Red Cross are two excellent organizations assisting folks affected by the Los Angeles fires.
Rather than focus on disaster coverage, we’d like to highlight a few positive examples of first responders assisting communities in crisis.
Firefighters From Across North America Answer the Call
As extreme weather events become increasingly common, it is clear that individual communities can be ill-equipped to deal with large-scale crises. First responders are often called to their line of work to help people close to home, so it is inspiring to hear so many stories of teams traveling thousands of miles to assist in California.
Texans, for example, have been invaluable to fire relief efforts in California. Teams from the Lone Star State have sent hundreds of firefighters, medical personnel, and more than forty-five fire engines, ambulances, and command vehicles. With in-state resources spread thin, it is heartwarming to see communities from other parts of the country donate their own resources.
Water bombers from as far away as Quebec and British Columbia, Canada, have provided much-needed relief to communities with hundreds of thousands of residents. Future climate disasters may require cooperation on an international scale, and we appreciate our Canadian neighbors’ assistance here in the Golden State.
Local Crews Fight Day and Night
Before out-of-state assistance arrived—and even with all the added support—fire crews in the Los Angeles area have been battling 2025’s fires with bravery and distinction. We hope Californians will remember this moment and show due appreciation for the folks risking life and limb to keep our communities safe.
Tens of thousands of local firefighters were mobilized as mass evacuations were ordered for many parts of the Los Angeles area. Fire departments were supported by thousands of other first responders and support personnel to protect communities spread over hundreds of miles.
One stand-out story mentioned a family of firefighters who worked around the clock for 48 hours to protect an Altadena neighborhood. Captain Dan Lievense of the Los Angeles Fire Department, along with his son and brother, stayed awake for two days battling a blaze that threatened dozens of homes.
Stories like this often get lost in the news cycle as the national media focus on big-picture narratives and blame for the disaster. Our guard team and support staff recognize the sacrifices that are asked of first responders. We encourage folks in our network to learn about and support the heroic efforts being made on the ground in LA.
